About this site

Raildays started life when I was looking for a comprehensive list of preserved and heritage railways in the UK, and couldn't find one that met my needs. Although there are a few sites that do include a very useful listing of preserved railways (see the links page), none of them go into any great detail about the various railways that they list.

At about the same time I was thinking about this, a thread in the uk.railway newsgroup was making a similar point — there wasn't a website giving independent reviews of preserved and heritage railways in the UK.

So, I decided to create one. The underlying code for this site is based on that previously used for my other review/rating sites, MotorwayServices.Info and RailwayStations.info, so it didn't take too long to put together. As with the Railway Stations website, I've initially seeded the database used here with redistributable content from Wikipedia and some of my own photos.

In this, its very early state, the site is still very much a work in progress and not all of the features I want to add are ready yet. In particular, the site won't be displaying any ratings until there are enough in the database to give a useful basis for comparison. So, in the meantime, I very much want your comments, ratings and photos so that I can build up enough information to move on to the next phase of the project!
